Cardinals' Tyrann Mathieu: No practice Thursday

Mathieu (knee) was a non-participant at practice Thursday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Analysis:

The Cardinals opted to give Mathieu a breather during their indoor practice on turf, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. On the injury report, though, Mathieu was listed as a DNP due to a knee injury, which is a clear reference to his recovery from last season's torn ACL. In the end, every effort will be made to recreate his playmaking self from a season, but his early-season role will seemingly be contained to deep in the center of the field, per the team's official site.
