A pair of Denver Broncos players have reportedly heard from the league office in regard to their flagrant hits on Cam Newton in the regular-season opener.

Safety Darian Stewart has been fined $18,231 for his helmet-to-helmet shot at the Carolina Panthers quarterback on the final drive of the game, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.

Linebacker Brandon Marshall has been docked $24,000 for his similarly dangerous hit on Newton in the third quarter, according to Troy Renck of The Denver Post.

Stewart's hit had initially drawn a flag before the penalty was offset by an intentional grounding violation from Newton. Marshall wasn't penalized at all, but the league reportedly later conceded that the decision was an error on the part of the officiating staff.
