Report: Broncos' Thomas headed for 2nd opinion after MRI on hip

Ron Chenoy / USA TODAY Sports

Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas recently underwent an MRI for a hip injury, and is now being sent to have a second opinion, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Thomas sustained the injury in the first quarter of Thursday's game against the Carolina Panthers. The fact that he remained in the game appeared to indicate a minor ailment, but Schefter reports that there's concern he could miss time depending on the result of the next stage of testing.

Any sort of absence for Thomas would, of course, be a major blow to a Denver passing game looking to stay afloat after losing each of their starting quarterbacks from last season.

The three-time Pro Bowler hauled in four passes for 48 yards from Trevor Siemian en route to their season-opening win Thursday night.

Emmanuel Sanders would slide into a role as Siemian's top target if Thomas is forced to miss any time, with Cody Latimer among those in line for more prominent complementary roles.
