Panthers say Newton passed 4 concussion tests

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has taken and passed four separate concussion tests since Thursday night's game, head coach Ron Rivera confirmed at a press conference Friday.

A Panthers official informed Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer the tests were taken in the locker room after the game, on the team bus back to the airport, on the plane, and once the team landed back in Charlotte on Friday morning.

Newton bore the brunt of numerous hits in the season opener against the Denver Broncos. However, after taking a helmet-to-helmet blow late in the fourth quarter, he was not evaluated for a concussion.

The league released a statement Friday stating medical personnel "concluded there were no indications of a concussion that would require further evaluation and the removal" of Newton from the game.
