Ravens' Eric Weddle: Listed as starting strong safety

Weddle is listed as the starting strong safety for Baltimore's Week 1 matchup with Buffalo.

Analysis:

Weddle and converted cornerback Lardarius Webb are locked in as the starting safeties, with the latter expected to man the free-safety spot. While known as a free safety throughout most of this career, the 31-year-old Weddle shouldn't have much trouble transitioning into a Baltimore offense that often uses the two roles interchangeably. Webb may be a sneaky IDP option in certain formats, but Weddle is the clear favorite to lead Baltimore's secondary in tackles. He also has a solid track record of forcing turnovers, with 19 interceptions, five forced fumbles and six recoveries in 137 career games (122 starts). Still, he's only a strong option in deeper formats, as he managed just 78 tackles over 13 games in his final season with San Diego. The Ravens likely just hope he won't make too many mistakes, potentially solidifying a back end that's been vulnerable for years.
