Court docs show Elliott texting about drug test with ex

Ezekiel Elliott recently avoided charges relating to domestic violence accusations from his ex-girlfriend, but evidence presented during the investigation could be of interest to the NFL as it pertains to the league's drug policy.

A text message exchange between Elliott and Tiffany Thompson addresses what was then an upcoming drug test, according to court documents obtained by Drew Davison of The Star-Telgram.

"I know you're stressed out, if you need me call me," Thompson texted to Elliott. "Just do everything you can to pass your drug test tomorrow. You'll be okay. I'm here for you."

Two responses from Elliott show him expressing confidence he'd pass the test while also seemingly hinting at a detox of sorts:

"I'm gonna pass."

"About to live in this sauna the next 24 hours."

It's unclear when the messages were sent, and it remains to be seen whether the NFL or the Dallas Cowboys will have any response.

A failed test isn't required for a player to be placed in the league's drug program, Davison adds, citing NFL policy. Any "behavior" that demonstrates potential misuse from up to two years before the player entered the league can be considered in the evaluation.

As the NFL remains set on enforcing a strict policy against marijuana, the texts may become all the more notable in the wake of Elliott being spotted at a Seattle marijuana dispensary in August.

Despite not being charged after the Columbus prosecutor's office deemed the victim's accounts to be conflicting, Elliott's case is still under league review.
