Steelers place Green on PUP list

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Tuesday they have placed tight end Ladarius Green on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Green will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season.

Green signed a four-year, $20-million contract with the Steelers in March and was expected to be one of the team's primary red-zone weapons - especially with Martavis Bryant suspended for the season.

Things haven't gone to plan. Green says he's rehabbing from ankle surgery, but there are rumors he is battling recurring headaches.

"I don't know what reports those are," Green said, according to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I am still on PUP because of my ankle."

Green's agent Adisa Bakari doesn't necessarily agree, telling NFL.com that his client's ankle "was fine."

Either way, Green now has more than a month to get healthy before he's eligible to make his Steelers debut.
