Buccaneers' Donteea Dye: Impressing at both receiver and returner

Dye is making a strong case for a roster spot through his work at both receiver and returner, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports. "He's battling. You can see not only his work at wide receiver, but he's doing good things on special teams," coach Dirk Koetter said after Wednesday's practice. "When you're talking about your fourth and fifth wideouts, they have to play on special teams as well. He's making a good case."

Analysis:

The second-year receiver stood out again in Wednesday's joint practice session with the Browns, hauling in four straight passes from Mike Glennon at one point during two-minute drills while working with the second-team offense. Dye also capped off practice with a would-be touchdown from Jameis Winston in a seven-on-seven red-zone drill. The Heidelberg product was raw last season after toiling away at the Division III level in college, but progressed after being thrown into the NFL fire due to Louis Murphy's season-ending ACL tear, finishing the 2015 campaign with 11 receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown. Dye is also working as the top kick returner this summer, a role that could well be pivotal to the speedster surviving final cuts.
