Saints' Brandon Coleman: "Pedestrian" throughout camp, per head coach

According to head coach Sean Payton, Coleman has been "kind of pedestrian throughout camp," reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Coleman led the Saints in yards, receptions, and targets in Saturday's ugly preseason loss to the Texans.

Analysis:

Uh oh. Sometimes numbers do not tell the whole story, and that was certainly the case Saturday. With both Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead sitting out, Coleman had several opportunities to make big plays but was unable to finish. On the Saints' first offensive possession, Drew Brees went deep to Coleman, who appeared to catch the ball but had it punched away when he was hit by Texans safety Quintin Demps. Said Payton, "I don't like how he's catching the ball on the first play that comes out of his hands. Too many times the ball is separated from him." His imposing size (6-foot-6) would make him an intriguing red-zone threat if he could earn playing time in the Saints' offense, but at this point it appears Coleman may be in danger of not even making the final roster.
