Patriots' Dion Lewis: Knee cleanup on tap

Lewis -- who tore his ACL in Week 7 last season -- needs to undergo what NFL Network's Ian Rapoport describes as a "knee cleanup."

Analysis:

Per CSN New England, Lewis' procedure does not "involve the ACL or any other ligaments." That said, given how close we are to the start of the regular season, it's quite plausible that Lewis will open the 2016 campaign on the Patriots' PUP list, a scenario that would cost him at least six games of action. With this news item, opportunity knocks in the form of added change-of-pace duty for James White, while the roster prospects of either Tyler Gaffney, Donald Brown or even D.J. Foster are possibly aided by the situation.
