Texans' Tyler Ervin: Still the primary kick returner

Ervin gained five yards on two carries and returned one kickoff and three punts in Houston's win over New Orleans in preseason Week 2.

Analysis:

With Alfred Blue (shoulder) missing his second straight game, it's noteworthy that Ervin has just six rushing attempts in two preseason games. Instead, we've seen a steady dose of Kenny Hilliard and Akeem Hunt when starter Lamar Miller has headed to the sidelines for good. Ervin's being touted as the leading candidate as a returner, but has had a couple of stumbles, one in each game. Last week, he muffed a punt return. This week, he showed poor form on a 14-yard return on the opening kickoff. Ervin's usage in the first two games suggests he's not a realistic option to replace Blue, should he be unavailable to start the regular season.
