Quarterback Carson Wentz is starting to take some positive steps in his recovery from a rib injury suffered during the Philadelphia Eagles' preseason opener.

Head coach Doug Pederson told reporters Saturday that the first-round rookie will begin some throwing work at practice over the weekend.

Seemingly confirming reports that have indicated Wentz could miss the remainder of Philadelphia's exhibition games, Pederson added that the team will not be rushing him back to the field.

Missing out on crucial preseason reps could be a significant blow to Wentz's early career development. The primary focus in the coming weeks, however, will be getting him healthy and avoiding further injuries.

The North Dakota State product will presumably enter the season in the No. 3 spot on the depth chart behind starter Sam Bradford and backup Chase Daniel.

Provided that the Eagles can get him enough practice reps when the regular season gets under way, anything less than playoff contention could conceivably result in Wentz getting a few starts down the stretch.
