It'll be some time before Ezekiel Elliott takes to an NFL football field, but when he does, he promises to make an impact.

The Dallas Cowboys' rookie running back has been sidelined with a sore right hamstring, an injury that will keep him from playing in the team's first preseason game on Saturday. Despite the setback, the No. 4 overall pick said he's raring to go.

"This is what I've worked my whole life for and I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm excited for the season, I'm excited to start this journey, and I'm ready to go kick some ass," Elliott told former Cowboy great Michael Irvin on "Good Morning Football" Thursday morning, according to NFL.com's Conor Orr.

Elliott's boastfulness is welcomed at Cowboys training camp.

"I love his confidence," star receiver Dez Bryant said of Elliott. "I love the swagger about him. I think whenever you ballin' and you come from Ohio State you full of swagger, so I think that gives us some things to work with and a lot of confidence in him."
