Dolphins' Jay Ajayi: Remains sidelined

Ajayi (knee) has not practiced since Sunday, the Palm Beach Post reports.

Analysis:

Ajayi, who was the Dolphins' projected starting running back as the summer began, continues to nurse a bone bruise on his left knee, while veteran Arian Foster, who the team signed last month, has had the opportunity to to "(roll) with the ones." With regard to Ajayi, coach Adam Gase said "he's not falling behind mentally, for sure...for me, the sooner we can get him back, the better. I know he's working hard to get back. It's one of those things that's so day-to-day that every day we walk in and say, 'Where's he at?' I know he's itching to get back out there." While Ajayi remains sidelined, Foster has reportedly shined. Per Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, "Foster is head and shoulders the best (running back) on Dolphins based on what he's showing in practice." Once Ajayi returns to the field, it will be interesting to see where he slots back in, but with Foster looking good so far, it's not hard to imagine him securing the team's top backfield job, provided he can stay healthy, though that is hardly a given, considering his injury history.
