Chargers GM: Bosa holdout due to 'small, fundamental differences'

The holdout of the San Diego Chargers' first-round pick, Joey Bosa, became official Friday.

Bosa was not present for the club's first session of training camp, and Chargers general manager Tom Telesco attributed the contractual stalemate to "small, fundamental differences" between the two parties.

"We're disappointed that he's not here," Telesco said Friday, according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune. "We just have some small, fundamental differences that haven't been resolved yet. But we're still actively talking. We're still actively working on it."

The rookie defensive end and his representation reportedly has issues with the payout timing of bonuses and the offset language in the contract.

The standoff, which has become significantly less common since the introduction of the rookie wage scale, means Bosa is missing vital time to learn the Chargers' defense.
