Report: Chargers 1st-round pick Bosa not expected for start of camp

A continued lack of progress in contract negotiations will reportedly force Joey Bosa to miss some all-important training camp reps.

The San Diego Chargers first-round pick, who already sat out mandatory minicamp this spring, is not expected to report with the rest of his teammates Friday, reports Steve Wyche of NFL Network.

Payout timing of bonuses and offset language involved in the contract are still sticking points in the ongoing discussions, Wyche adds.

A new and improved contract structure has long simplified the process of getting rookie players into camp on time, so this standoff has carried on far longer than expected.

Getting Bosa on the practice field sooner rather than later will be imperative when it comes to preparing him to take on a significant role in his debut season.

The former Ohio State standout figures to immediately step in as another pass-rush threat opposite Melvin Ingram on San Diego's front seven. His transition to the professional ranks comes on the heels of a productive three-year college career, in which he notched 26 sacks and 51 tackles for loss.
