The clock is ticking, but the needle isn't moving for Drew Brees and his contract talks with the New Orleans Saints.

After Brees said negotiations have stalled since March, general manager Mickey Loomis confirmed the two sides are at an impasse.

"We haven't made any progress," Loomis told reporters Wednesday about Brees' contract status.

He added he doesn't expect talks to be a distraction, which coach Sean Payton agreed with.

Brees is set to have a $30-million cap hit this season, entering the final year of his deal. The 37-year-old has led the NFL in passing yards in four of the past five seasons.

The veteran has set the start of the regular season as a deadline to end negotiations so as to not cause any in-season distractions.
