Report: Kaepernick cleared for training camp

Kelley L. Cox / USA TODAY Sports

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been medically cleared to participate in practice for the first time this offseason, reports Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

The 28-year-old was put through a series of tests, including on-field work, by his doctor and passed them all.

Kaepernick underwent surgeries on his shoulder, thumb, and knee since he last played during the 2015 season.

Blaine Gabbert has been taking all the first-team snaps since Kaepernick went down with injury in November and reportedly has the upper hand to win the starting job heading into camp.
