Anthony Davis files for reinstatement after 1-year retirement

Anthony Davis retired from the NFL in June 2015 after five years with the San Francisco 49ers, but the offensive tackle expressed a desire to return to the league after a one-year sabbatical.

It appears he has kept to his word.

Davis has his sights set on returning to his former team, one in which he started for in all 71 games of his career. However, it is not known how long it will take for the NFL to respond to his letter.

If he hopes to return to his right-tackle position, however, he will have to impress a new coaching staff, one with Chip Kelly at the helm.

New offensive line coach Pat Flaherty also appears to have no plans to just hand Davis his old job.

"And he knows this, coming from me, if he wants to play, then he's got to come back and prove he can play," Flaherty told reporters, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. "It's got to come from within. You can tell him exactly what I just said, 'Listen, you'll have an opportunity to play. But that's all it is. You decided for whatever reason to retire. If you come back in the game, nothing is going to be handed to you. You're going to have to work your tail off.'"
