Former Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers cornerback Charles Tillman announced his retirement on Monday with a video posted on YouTube.

Tillman tweeted a short message saying "It's been real," with a link to the video featuring him "Peanut Punching" things out of people's hands in everyday life.

The two-time Pro Bowler is walking away after saying in June the only team he would come back to play for would be the Panthers.

"Peanut" was a second round pick of the Bears in 2003, immediately contributing to one of the league's best defenses with 86 tackles and four interceptions in his rookie season.

He would go on to play 12 years in Chicago, amassing 36 interceptions over 156 games . During the Bears' Super Bowl XLI loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Tillman recorded 11 tackles.

Tillman's 2012 season may go down as one of the most remarkable for a defensive playmaker in NFL history. During that year he recorded three interceptions, all returned for touchdowns, while forcing 10 fumbles and recovering two. He was voted first-team All-Pro for that season.

During his lone season with the Carolina Panthers, Tillman helped lead the franchise to its first Super Bowl, grabbing two interceptions and recording 55 tackles in 12 games.

Known as one of the most reliable corners in the league during his career, Tillman was also around the ball consistently. He finishes his NFL career with 44 forced fumbles and nine defensive touchdowns.
