Chiefs' Kevin Hogan: In mix for for backup QB role

Hogan, the Chiefs' 2016 fifth-round selection, is in the mix for the backup QB role as soon as this upcoming season, NFL.com reports.

Analysis:

Chase Daniel (Eagles) bolted for a pay increase this offseason, subsequently leaving the Chiefs with a void at backup quarterback. Alex Smith, who tossed for a career-high 3,486 yards in 2015, is undoubtedly locked in as the starter, but his mobile tendencies do leave him more vulnerable than the average starting quarterback, which thus places more importance on the backup quarterback in Kansas City relative to the rest of the league. Evidently, Hogan, a fifth-round selection in this year's draft, is in competition for said job as soon as this year and will battle for the title with Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray come training camp.
