Panthers' DC: 'Surreal' to see Norman in different uniform

Over the past four seasons, the Carolina Panthers have been a top-10 unit with Josh Norman on the roster, but defensive coordinator Sean McDermott will have to do without him this year.

McDermott said Norman's departure to the Washington Redskins is "part of the business," but seeing him with another team is going to take some time to adjust to, according to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer.

"It is a little surreal to watch him in a different uniform and I’m sure it will be this year," McDermott said. "He’s a good player and we wish him the best. I hope he has a tremendous season, except for obviously when he plays us."

Norman will get a crack at his old team at home in Week 15 for a Monday night showdown.

The 42-year-old defensive coordinator said Norman played a large role in the Panthers' recent success. He's upset to have to watch Norman suit up for another team, but, after over a decade of NFL coaching, McDermott understands the decision.

"It’s been really fun to watch Josh grow over the years and develop," said McDermott. "Certainly he was a big part of our success last season and the season before that. You develop a relationship with the players, so that’s really been a neat part of watching Josh develop and grow the last several years here.

"The hard part of the business is watching these guys when they decide to go to other teams. And I respect that. They have to make decisions on their behalf. But that’s part of the business that’s hard."
