Raiders' Smith: 'I've never seen anybody like Khalil Mack'

After just two NFL seasons, Oakland Raiders defender Khalil Mack is well on his way to a Hall of Fame career.

Mack made history last season being named as an All-Pro at two different positions (defensive end and outside linebacker) and that distinction has earned him respect and admiration from his teammates.

"I've never seen anybody like Khalil Mack to be honest with you," Raiders linebacker Malcolm Smith told SiriusXM NFL radio on Tuesday. "He's kind of one of a kind, as far as my football knowledge goes and my time being in the NFL. Even in college, I don't think I played against a player that was as dominant as Khalil is in a one-on-one setting, even in a two-on-one setting.

"He's a big part of our defense and obviously I feel like he's one of a kind. Maybe you guys know somebody similar? I don't know. Maybe Derrick Thomas."

Mack finished second in league sacks last season with 15 and will look to improve that number this season after the Raiders made improvements to their defense this offseason.

One of the league's worst secondaries from 2015 added three new expected starters and Mack got his own bookend pass-rusher in Bruce Irvin from the Seattle Seahawks.

"I think it's just going to make things better for the rest of us," said Smith. "We can take some pressure off of him. With Bruce (Irvin) getting back there and other guys getting to the quarterback, it will make it easier for us in coverage and we'll make some more plays."
