Cardinals president: Online streaming the future of NFL broadcasting

The NFL makes buckets of money from its television partners, but the medium may not be the primary method fans use to watch football in the future.

Arizona Cardinals president Michael Bidwill said in an interview on NBC Sports' "PFT Live" on Wednesday he believes a partnership with an online streaming provider like Netflix or YouTube is the future for NFL games.

"There’s no doubt it’s coming," Bidwill said. "The question is how we transition into it. What we need to do is do a great job of listening to our fans about how they want to consume NFL content. Our fans are switching to digital, they’re switching to handheld and mobile devices, and we want to respond to that."

The Cardinals are at the forefront of this movement, as they are featured in a "Hard Knocks"-like documentary series called "All or Nothing" that will debut on Amazon Prime on July 1.

The NFL's first global live stream occurred last season on Yahoo. In 2016, the league will stream 10 "Thursday Night Football" games on Twitter.
