The Buffalo Bills aren't believed to be close to signing quarterback Tyrod Taylor to a long-term contract before the start of the 2016 season, and negotiations may reportedly still be in progress when the upcoming campaign begins.

Taylor's representatives and the Bills are continuing to discuss a new deal and both parties are willing to extend talks into the regular season, with the possibility of an in-season contract extension, a source told Sal Capaccio of WGR 550.

Taylor signed a three-year deal last offseason, but is set to hit free agency in 2017 because the final year of the contract was voided by a clause in the deal.

The 27-year-old firmly established himself as the Bills' starter during a breakout campaign in 2015, but Buffalo has appeared reluctant to commit to him long term.

Taylor will earn a maximum of $3 million in 2016 under his new deal, which is far below the going rate for a solid starting quarterback.
