Bills' Goodwin 'knows it is a risk' to pursue Olympic dream

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is currently attempting to make the U.S. Olympic long-jump team. If he achieves his goal and participates in July's games, he'll likely miss the start of the club's training camp.

With the Bills in desperate need of a wide receiver to emerge alongside Sammy Watkins, Goodwin understands that he could be risking his shot at securing a future in the NFL by chasing his Olympic dream.

"I know it is a risk," Goodwin told Emily Kaplan of the MMQB. "I want a second contract. I'd love it to be in Buffalo. I love football. But I know how important it is to live your life like you want to. I know some organizations wouldn't allow that, but Rex (Ryan) does and I'm so appreciative of that."

After a solid rookie season, Goodwin has failed to make any sort of impact for the Bills, mostly due to his inability to stay healthy.

Goodwin said he has the support of Ryan, but the head coach has previously stated that the 25-year-old could be hurting his chances of making the Bills' roster.

"The way Rex sees it, is that you're a man at the end of the day," Goodwin said. "He said, 'I wouldn't want to take you from a dream of yours. And if that's a dream of yours, go do it.'"

Goodwin finished 10th in the London Olympics in 2012
