Bills' LeSean McCoy: Bothered by ankle, not hamstring

Head coach Rex Ryan said McCoy is dealing with an ankle injury, rather than the hamstring injury that was previously reported, Tyler Dunne of The Buffalo News reports.

Analysis:

Ryan said he misspoke when discussing the injury last week. While it isn't believed to be anything serious, there is actually significance to the latest update, as McCoy was persistently bothered by his hamstring for the first half of last season. He later dealt with shoulder and knee injuries and ultimately played just 12 games, yet still managed 1,187 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns, with 4.4 yards per carry (203 attempts) and 9.1 per reception (32 catches, 50 targets). McCoy did all that despite sometimes ceding second-half work to Karlos Williams, who reportedly showed up to minicamp this year out of shape. The early rumblings are worth keeping an eye on, but the Bills will likely enter training camp with the backfield among the least of their concerns. Rookie fifth-rounder Jonathan Williams should further bolster a strong group.
