Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Ready for individual drills

Charles (knee) will take part in individual drills at Tuesday's minicamp practice, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site reports.

Analysis:

Charles has been present at offseason practices for rehab and off-field work for the past few weeks, but he's yet to make an on-field appearance alongside his teammates. Tuesday thus marks a significant step in his recovery from the torn ACL suffered in Week 5 last year, with all reports to date suggesting that Charles is on/ahead of schedule. There is some thought that Charles, even if he returns to full health, might lose touches to Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West, who formed an effective duo in the superstar's absence last season. Prior to the injury, Charles was handling a huge workload while playing the vast majority of offensive snaps; he had 71 carries, 21 receptions, 541 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns before he was injured in Week 5.
