Chargers, Allen reach agreement on 4-year extension

Jake Roth / USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Chargers and wide receiver Keenan Allen reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension Friday that will keep Allen with the Chargers through the 2020 season.

Financial terms of the deal were not released, but Allen will earn more than $11 million per season, according to Michael Gehlken of The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Allen was off to a torrid start last season, recording 67 receptions for 725 yards and four touchdowns, before a kidney injury forced him to miss the final eight games of the regular season.

The 24-year-old was in the final year of his contract and was slated to earn $1.65 million in base salary prior to receiving the extension.

Allen emerged as Philip Rivers' top target and will likely be the focal point of the team's passing game for years to come.
