Buccaneers' Johnthan Banks: Works with first team during Thursday OTAs

Banks worked with the first-string defense during Thursday's OTA session, Joe Kania of the team's official site reports.

Analysis:

The 26-year-old was back in his first-team spot from last season, due to Brent Grimes being held out of practice for what appeared to be precautionary reasons. Banks, who grabbed seven interceptions over his first two seasons, was shut out in that department in 2015 over 14 games. He also logged a career-low 25 tackles, and was one of the culprits of a secondary that facilitated a league-worst 70 percent completion rate to opposing quarterbacks. The Mississippi State product faces an uphill battle to reclaim a spot on the starting unit this season, considering the offseason additions of Brent Grimes and Josh Robinson, as well as the first-round investment made by the Bucs in Vernon Hargreaves.
