Jackson confirms Browns to hold open QB competition in training camp

After months of speculation around what his team is planning to do with the quarterback position, Hue Jackson finally admitted that the Cleveland Browns will have an open competition for the starting job in training camp.

"Yeah, if you want to see it that way - yes it is," Jackson told ESPN's Pat McManamon on Thursday. "I'm being very honest with you guys. I haven't come close to letting my mind go there. I'm just trying to help our football team improve and that position improve as much as I can. I think that's what's really important."

Robert Griffin III is expected to enter camp as the favorite, after signing with the Browns in March. His competitors will be rookie Cody Kessler and 13-year veteran Josh McCown.

Jackson has never shown any signs that he is in a rush to name a quarterback, despite heaping praise on Griffin since the former Washington Redskin's arrival.

"I think he's gotten better," said Jackson about Griffin. "I said it yesterday. I've been saying it for a while. I know he gets highly scrutinized for a lot of different things, but he has gotten better in a lot of areas."

Griffin has taken snaps with the first-team offense in every open practice session.
