Von Miller announced Monday that he and the Denver Broncos are coming closer to agreeing to a long-term contract.

"We've made real progress over the last couple of days," Miller said during his team's visit to the White House, according to Dan Hanzus of NFL.com. "I'm very optimistic about the whole thing. I remain optimistic about everything."

The Broncos placed the franchise tag on their star linebacker in March, meaning he's slated to earn $14.1 million in 2016 unless the two parties can come to terms.

Miller is believed to be seeking a contract that will make him the highest-paid defensive player in the league. That distinction is currently held by Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who boasts an average yearly salary of just over $19 million.

Denver and the Super Bowl 50 MVP have until July 15 to agree to a new contract, or Miller will play under the tag this upcoming season.
