Report: Jets not interested in giving Fitzpatrick a 1-year, $12M deal

Greg M. Cooper / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick continue to negotiate through the media.

About 12 hours after a report that Fitzpatrick would accept a one-year deal worth $12 million emerged, sources told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that the Jets have no interest in making such an offer.

The Jets reportedly have a three-year deal worth $24 million on the table for Fitzpatrick, so it seems the team is intent on locking up its 2015 starter beyond 2016.

The protracted, public negotiations between the two parties have been awkward and perhaps a little unprofessional, but the expectation among nearly everyone in the football world is that the Jets and Fitzpatrick will eventually come to terms. Frankly, neither side has any realistic options outside of each other.
