DeSean Jackson skips voluntary practice, forfeits $500K bonus

While most NFL players attend voluntary spring workouts to help secure a spot on their roster, Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson had a different idea.

The 29-year-old was not present at Wednesday's voluntary practice session, which negates his $500,000 workout bonus, according to ESPN's John Keim.

"The last time I looked up the word 'voluntary,' it is his choice,'' Redskins head coach Jay Gruden told The Associated Press on Wednesday. ''He's been in the league nine years I believe it is and he knows what type of shape he has to come in. Obviously last year he pulled his hamstring, and people are gonna say he was out of shape, but he wasn't really. I think he'll be ready to go."

Jackson's roster spot isn't particularly in doubt after averaging 17.6 yards per catch last season on 30 receptions through nine games. He remains one of the league's top deep threats at receiver.

The veteran posted a photo on Instagram from St. Maarten on Sunday, suggesting he was on his way back from a vacation.

According to Spotrac.com, Jackson has earned over $37 million in his career.
