Steelers, Lions to hold joint practices ahead of preseason game

Charles LeClaire / USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions announced Tuesday that the two teams will get together for a pair of joint practices during training camp this summer.

Leading up to their Aug. 12 preseason matchup, the Steelers and Lions will meet for practice sessions just outside of Pittsburgh at Saint Vincent College on Aug. 9 and Aug. 10.

Such arrangements are now common throughout the league.

Amid a grueling training camp schedule, teams often find it beneficial to ramp up the competition level against a new opponent.

Neither the Steelers nor the Lions held joint practices with another team in 2015. Pittsburgh last did so with the Buffalo Bills in 2014, while Detroit's last such workouts came with the Carolina Panthers in 2000.
