49ers' Gerald Hodges: Lines up with first-team defense during OTAs

Hodges lined up with the first-team defense at middle linebacker during San Francisco's organized team activities, CSN Bay Area reports.

Analysis:

Hodges did an excellent job filling in for Michael Wilhoite during the last four weeks of the season (39 tackles in four games). It was expected that the latter would reclaim his starting role in 2016, but early signs are pointing toward Hodges. Head coach Chip Kelly made an effort to point out that there are no definitive depth charts or position battles this early in the offseason program, but it's definitely a situation to monitor, as whoever ends up winning the starting spot next to NaVorro Bowman will be a cheap source of tackles in IDP leagues.
