Broncos rookie Booker: I'm here to 'take someone's job,' not carry pads

Jennifer Buchanan / USA TODAY Sports

Rookie hazing in the NFL has come along way from the days of borderline torture, but some initiation traditions still exist. One of the most common in the league is the carrying of veterans' pads.

It's nothing too grueling, but some players don't want to be burdened with carrying an extra 15-20 pounds after practice. And Denver Broncos rookie running back Devontae Booker is one of the bothered.

Booker joined his fellow rookies at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere and had some strong words about his start in Denver.

Booker was the featured offensive weapon in his college days at Utah and wants to keep that trend going at the NFL level.

The man whose job he'll try to take is recently re-signed running back C.J. Anderson, who isn't overly concerned with the rookie's comments.

"What do people want him to say?’" Anderson told Mike Klis of 9News. "It doesn't matter what he says. I know what I can do. I know what I can do in this league. He's coming in with confidence and he's supposed to. I don't have a problem with what he said. I said the same thing when I came in undrafted."

Game on.
