Coughlin hints at desire to continue coaching career

Tom Coughlin may not be ready to walk away just yet.

The veteran head coach, whose 12-year run with the New York Giants came to an end this offseason, will be out of a job this fall for only the second time since 1994.

While he'll turn 70 years old over the summer, it sounds as though he'd be open to a return to the sidelines heading into the 2017 campaign.

"I've coached 47 years of my life," Coughlin told Peter King of the MMQB on Sunday. "You take it away, and that's not an easy thing to duplicate."

Coughlin conceded that his age will be a factor in that process, indicating a team would have to be accepting of the fact that he'd likely only stick for three or four years.

Despite the short-term limitations, though, the two-time Super Bowl champion remains confident that he still has something left to offer.

"They'll have to know the guy," Coughlin said. "If I have an opportunity to speak to anyone (about a coaching job), they'll see what I'd be able to do for them."

Across 20 seasons as a head coach, including an eight-year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars before landing in New York, Coughlin has put together a regular-season record of 170-150.

The impressive win total puts him in a tie with Mike Shanahan for 12th all-time and behind only Bill Belichick among active coaches.
