Falcons owner gives every team an 'A' for draft

It seems Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank doesn't fully comprehend the concept behind draft grades.

The 73-year-old Home Depot scion believes every team should get high marks.

"Every team should get a grade 'A,'" Blank told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's D. Orlando Ledbetter on Friday. "Then when you look back two or three years, that's when you judge whether or not if you had a good draft or not."

Apparently Blank is no fan of the bell curve.

This isn't your run-of-the-mill old-guy criticism of draft grades, or a possibly legitimate argument against the validity of assigning a letter to a draft class before any of its players see an NFL field. This is an NFL owner advocating the media equivalent of (gasp) a participation ribbon!

But Arthur Blank will gladly give his team a draft grade. The letter? You guessed it - "A."

"You think from our perspective, I would give our coach (Dan Quinn) and general manager Thomas (Dimitroff) a grade 'A' because I know that every single position they drafted very specifically for exactly what the coach wanted and the coaching needs in terms of defense or in terms of the offense," Blank said. "Hopefully, that will play out in a successful way over the next couple of years."
