There appears to be some considerable optimism regarding Melvin Gordon's recovery from offseason knee surgery.

After reports surfaced earlier this week indicating that he'd undergone a microfracture procedure in January, the second-year running back said there was "no question" he'd be ready for training camp.

San Diego Chargers general manager Tom Telesco added to the positive news Wednesday, telling ESPN's NFL Insiders that not adding a running back this offseason speaks to the team's confidence in Gordon's status.

"I think so," Telesco said, according to Eric D. Williams of ESPN. "Every knee injury is unique to the player. But I think with microfracture surgery there are two key elements to it - the size of the treatment area and the location of it - and both with Melvin were favorable.

"He's on track with everything. He's been on the field working. We'll continue to monitor him throughout the offseason, but everything is on track with training camp right now."

Indeed getting healthy in time for camp would go a long way toward helping Gordon bounce back from a disappointing rookie season.

The Wisconsin product struggled to make an impact after joining the Chargers as a first-round pick last spring, tallying just 641 yards and no touchdowns across 14 regular-season games.
