Lions' Miles Killebrew: Competing at strong safety

Killebrew will compete with Rafael Bush and Tavon Wilson for the starting strong safety position in Detroit, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Analysis:

The Lions are set at free safety with veteran Glover Quin, but the strong safety job looks to be an open and intense competition. Initially there was concern about Killebrew's coverage ability, but he'll be given every chance to prove he can handle coverage at the NFL level, where he'll likely be asked to cover tight ends. Due to the veteran presence of Bush and Wilson, it would be surprising if Killebrew became the team's Week 1 starter, but it is likely that he gets some backup snaps to start the year.
