Lions' Decker focused on improving, not about where he plays

Detroit Lions first-round pick Taylor Decker is a man without a clear-cut position, but he isn't letting that worry him.

Decker, who was drafted 16th overall, will play offensive tackle, but it's not known if the Lions prefer to play him on the left or right side of the line.

Asked about his thoughts on where he should begin his career, Decker was noncommittal and humble.

"If I don’t become a better football player, I can’t play either position," Decker told Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official website. "I need to become a lot better football player to play either side."

Decker played on both sides at Ohio State and has already taken practice reps at both positions at Lions minicamp.

"I’m just doing whatever they tell me to do,” he said. "Playing both sides. Getting reps all over the place. The big thing is just become a better football player, that’s their job to sort out (where I play)."

The Lions will have plenty of options when they finalize their offensive line alignment in the summer. Incumbent left tackle Riley Reiff also has experience at right tackle, and incumbent right tackle Michael Ola can play on either side, too.
