The Raiders selected Joseph in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 14th overall.

Analysis:

This selection will likely get called a reach by some, but it's a more conventionally-sound pick than D.J. Hayden was at the 12th pick in 2013. Joseph was very much on the radar heading into Thursday and was long identified as a candidate to be the first pure safety selected behind CB/S tweener Jalen Ramsey, so Oakland got itself a fine selection here. Joseph will likely earn a three-down role early on in his Oakland career, and he'll be a formidable IDP prospect once that occurs. Joseph was a superb four-year starter for West Virginia, showing a skill set that features both enforcer and ballhawking elements.
