Reports emerged Friday that the New Orleans Saints were making a late push for Josh Norman, raising the question of how a team with just $3.5 million in cap space could afford to sign the All-Pro cornerback.

Norman ended up joining the Washington Redskins on a reported five-year, $75-million deal, but according to ESPN's Ed Werder, quarterback Drew Brees was willing to rework his contract to make the signing happen for the Saints.

Werder also noted that Brees, who has the highest cap number in the NFL this season at $30 million, "personally wanted" Norman on the Saints.
