Ravens bolster defense with OLB Kamalei Correa
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
The Baltimore Ravens have drafted outside linebacker Kamalei Correa out of Boise State in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
The 6-foot-2, 243-pounder was a second-team all-conference selection in 2015, and his high energy style should be a good fit with Dean Pees' defense in Baltimore.
Correa is one of the fastest linebackers available in the draft, running a very impressive 4.69 second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine.
Kamalei Correa Bio
Position: OLB
School: Boise State
College Experience: Junior
Height: 6-3
Weight: 248 lbs.
Strengths
- Highly athletic linebacker that uses top-end speed to dominate in the pass rush or run game.
- Very productive in college despite teams focusing on stopping his pressure.
- Highly instinctual player who reads the game well from the linebacker position.
- One of the top run-stopping outside linebackers in recent memory.
- Possesses the speed to keep up with running backs.
Weaknesses
- Often tries for a big hit instead of a fundamentally sound tackle.
- Needs to work on hand placement to shed blocks.
- Can play smaller than his 248-pound frame suggests.
- Very raw as a pass-rusher; will need to refine his moves as simply relying on athleticism won't work at next level.
