O'Neal jealous of Kobe's farewell tour: 'I wanted a Shaq tour, man'

Though they've publicly swept their professional enmity under the rug on a couple occasions, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant's relationship apparently hasn't shed every pretense of ego.

O'Neal was officially announced as a Hall of Fame inductee on Monday, but even that honor of honors didn't scratch the itch that's been plaguing him all year. Turns out, he can't hide his envy for the farewell party NBA fans have lavished Bryant with in the final season of his career.

"I'm super jealous," O'Neal said on the most recent episode of his podcast (which won't air until next Monday), as quoted by Andrew Joseph of For the Win. "I wanted a Shaq tour, man. I did. Like, I never said this but this is killing me."

O'Neal's career, on the whole, stacks up quite evenly with that of his former teammate-turned-rival. But O'Neal didn't get to go out on his own terms, ultimately forced to retire earlier than he'd planned due to injury, and he's still salty about it.

"So, you know, I had two years in Boston," he said. "I got hurt my first year, but the second year, we were going to plan a whole Shaq tour. I'm super jealous. I wanted a Shaq tour."

More than anything, O'Neal wanted to have one last hurrah in front of the Lakers fans in Los Angeles, where he played the most dominant ball of his career and won three of his four championships. Bryant, of course, won those same three titles, but got to keep the Lakers in the eventual divorce, while O'Neal was traded to the Miami Heat. Bryant ultimately played his entire career in Los Angeles, winning two more titles, and now retiring in the purple and gold.

"I wanted to just go to the city, and people see me play my last game," O'Neal said. "I did. I'm like - at first I tried to suck it up, but I can't. It's killing me."
