VIDEO: Gary Neville's likeness burned in Valencia streets

Valencia's season isn't the only thing going up in flames, as an effigy of embattled boss Gary Neville was burned on the Iberian Peninsula on Friday during the city's annual Las Fallas festival.

The festival, a week-long celebration of fire, is known for fireworks in the streets, and the ceremonial burning of effigies crafted from wood, paper mache, and cardboard.

Symbolic of the belief that what is burned will give birth to the ameliorated, the irony of a more suitable manager rising from the Valencia ashes was not likely lost on those in attendance.

Hired by friend and Valencia owner Peter Lim in the first week of December, the former Manchester United and England defender's spell with the La Liga outfit has been nothing short of dismal.

Neville's likeness wasn't the only one burned to the delight of onlookers, with effigies of Lim, club chairwoman Layhoon Chan, and former gaffer Nuno also receiving the bonfire treatment.

Los Che has gone from a threat to nab a continental spot to languishing in 14th place, six points clear of the drop zone.

With eight matches left in the season and a once-promising Europa League campaign long since spoiled, Neville and his lot are perilously playing with fire. 12 years removed from a La Liga crown, Valencia and its disgruntled supporters may very well favour burning it all to the ground in advance of next season.
