Report: Stanford interested in UAB's Jerod Haase for coaching vacancy
Stanford may be closing in on a replacement for recently fired head coach Johnny Dawkins.
The Cardinal have spoken to UAB head coach Jerod Haase for their vacancy, according to Gary Parrish of CBS Sports. Parrish also notes that Haase is among the top candidates for the position.
Haase has spent the past four seasons with the Blazers, guiding the team to an 80-53 record over that span. The 41-year-old has won 46 games in the past two seasons, and has spent time as an assistant under Roy Williams at North Carolina and Kansas.
Despite Haase's strong resume, his hiring is anything but a done deal. Some involved with the decision-making are not in favor of Haase, and are instead hoping to land former Stanford guard Brevin Knight, according to Parrish.
The Cardinal will hope whoever they hire can get them back to the NCAA tournament, which they've missed out on in each of the last two years.
