Neville 'totally committed to Valencia' despite England duties

Gary Neville insisted Saturday he's "totally committed" to Valencia despite taking time off to assist Roy Hodgson with the England national team.

The former Manchester United skipper was appointed Los Che gaffer in December and has had a difficult initiation in management. He has, however, decided to take time from Valencia to continue the coaching role with his country that he began in 2012.

"Maybe it's been used against me by the fans or people like yourselves, asking the questions, but it's been a three or four-month commitment," said Neville.

"I'm totally committed to Valencia, I think I've proven that."

Neville's contract at the Mestalla is up at the end of the season, and a run of just three wins in 15 La Liga outings is not the greatest application for a renewal. His relationship with the Valencia hierarchy is a contentious subject though, with owner Peter Lim a business associate and personal friend.

The 41-year-old still seems confident about his future despite the poor on-field performances, saying his England commitments were understood when signing the deal in western Spain.

"I don't know about refreshing, I don't know if it's the right word. It won't be a break either. It's something we agreed many months ago when I came to Valencia," he added.

Neville said Valencia still has "a lot to fight for" ahead of Celta Vigo's visit Sunday, before the Mancunian helps out on international duty for friendlies against Germany and the Netherlands.
