Report: Arroyo may pitch again after MRI misread
Bronson Arroyo thought his career might be over after being diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff, but he appears to have received a second lease on his baseball life.
A source told FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal that a doctor initially misread Arroyo's MRI results, and his rotator cuff isn't torn after all.
The righty has reportedly been re-diagnosed with bursa sac inflammation, and will only be shut down for another 7-10 days as a result.
However, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports the Washington Nationals have refuted the assessment.
"The report out there is not consistent with what our team doctors are saying," a club spokesman told Zuckerman.
Washington will meet with Arroyo on Saturday to take a look at medical reports and decide on a course of action.
Arroyo, who hasn't pitched in the bigs since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2014, inked a minors deal with the Nationals in January, and was supposed to give the organization added starting-pitching depth.
The 39-year-old owns a 145-131 record with a 4.19 ERA over 15 major-league seasons.
